Here you have the list of best camping chairs with lumbar support that are currently on the market, all folding and collapsible chairs from renown brands.
Why you might need a chair with lumbar support
If you have a back pain you probably already know that you need a chair with a lumbar support, so this list of folding camp chair with lumbar support offers some excellent options. Such a chair is not expected to cure your back, but it will surely help in reducing the pain and relieving any additional stress and in making your camping bearable.
If you still do not suffer from such a problem but want to invest in your health, this is the text for you. Prevent the pain before it comes, this is the point here. The principle of a good lumbar profile is shown in this picture above from the Strongback brand.
What to consider
- This is about comfort, so if you can sit in a chair for a long period and still feel comfortable, this is the chair for you.
- Such chairs have different seat sizes and different seat heights, and these parameters must be taken into account with respect to your body size. If the chair is too tall for you, it will not be comfortable. If it is too low, and if you are an elderly user, you will find it difficult to get in and out of it. Luckily, all of them have armrests, either solid bars or fabric supported by metal handles on the front, so this helps a lot.
- The packed size and weight may be important if you use such a chair for other purposes and not only for camping. For example, if you go to a sports event or an open-air concert you will probably carry it some short distance. In the case of camping, such chairs will be transported by car in any case, so these parameters are not a big deal. Besides, the differences between the chairs with respect to these parameters are usually not so drastic.
- Most of them are padded throughout the seat and the back. But in the case of the Strongback brand, the padding is mainly on the curved lumbar zone. Padding makes a chair more comfortable but think also about weather conditions, if such a chair becomes wet it will need time to dry.
What is included
The chairs here in the list belong to two main groups:
- The chairs with a frame-integrated lumbar support that is fixed.
- The chairs with an adjustable lumbar design based on a strap and a pad that are behind the back section of the chair.
The former type is typical for the Strongback brand, they have specialized in such a type and several of their chairs are here in the list. This is normal to expect, those are very ergonomic award-winning patented designs. The latter type may be a better option if several family members or members of a group are going to use the chair, so they can easily adjust the lumbar profile to fit the body size.
Note also that all chairs here are collapsible-type, and this means that when you pack them they remain large in one dimension only, similar to an umbrella design. So they require no assembly, you simply spread each of them in one simple move, and equally fast you make them ready.

1. ALPHA CAMP Oversized Camping Folding Chair
This ALPHA CAMP Oversized Camping Folding Chair is full of features, but it is here because of its lumbar support where you have a strap that can be adjusted to find your best fit.
This is also a chair with a huge capacity of 450 lb (204 kg) and it is included also in my list of chairs for heavy people. It has very unique solid and padded armrests that are detachable.
The complete chair is fully padded so it is also on my list of best padded chairs for camping. This is an easy to use folding chair with storage elements and a great size as its name suggests. A carry bag is included. The weight is 14.1 lb (6.4 kg).
2. Coastrail Outdoor Camping Chair with Lumbar Back Support
This affordable Coastrail Outdoor Camping Chair with Lumbar Back Support is a folding type and it is here because of its features mentioned in the name. So you have an adjustable strap behind the lumbar area and you can find the best fit for you.
But this is also a chair with a huge capacity of 400 lb (181 kg). This is why I have included it also to my list of camping chairs for heavy people. This is not all, here you have a very wide seat so it is on my list of extra-wide camping chairs.
You also have a headrest, a cooler integrated into its armrests, a cup holder, and a carry bag included. The weight is 12 lb (5.4 kg).
3. Jet Tent Pilot DX Camping Chair with Lumbar Support
This chair is with plenty of features and several adjustability options so that indeed no other chair here in the list is a match to it. So you obviously have the lumbar support design, and this is adjustable both horizontally and vertically. There is a strap that goes behind the back and you can regulate the lumbar curvature with two buckles on the sides. But there are three sleeves to put the strap at three different heights to fit the body size.
The chair is also with solid and padded armrests, and here too you have an adjustability system. There are straps that go vertically along the back poles so you can angle the armrests as you wish.
This is a very high chair and it offers a great headrest, there is a top zippered pocket where you can put its carry bag and create a pillow. So I have included it in my list of chairs with headrest.
Note also that all parts in this chair are replaceable, this is what makes it unique in the list. For other features and some numbers please follow the link.
4. Kamp-Rite Padded Folding Chair with Lumbar Support
This is one of those chairs where the lumbar support is adjustable. So you have a strap and a wide pad on the back and you can regulate the curvature in the lumbar area to fit your body size. This makes it useful for different users who may have different preferences.
The chair is padded, and you have armrests with integrated cup holders. This is a collapsible design so it reduces to 38 x 9 x 8 inches (97 x 23 x 20 cm) when packed, and you have a nice carry bag included as well.
The weight is 9 lb (4.08 kg) and the capacity is 300 lb (136 kg), both are quite typical numbers. Please follow the link to read more and to check for the updated price.
5. KingCamp Folding Quad Chair With Lumbar Support and Armrests
This KingCamp chair is the same type as the Kamp-Rite chair shown above, so here too you have the strap behind the back and you can regulate the lumbar profile. But it is a bit heavier, it weighs 11.3 lb (5.1 kg) and the capacity is bigger, 353 lb (160 kg).
The dimensions are such that you can have a headrest here unless you are particularly tall (W x D x H) 38.2 x 23.5 x 41.3 in (97 x 60 x 105 cm). The seat is quite big 23.5 x 23.5 inches (60 x 60 cm) and the packed size is 38 x 9 x 8 inches (96 x 23 x 20 cm).
You have a cup holder integrated into one of the armrests, and on the other side you have a padded cooler with space for several beer cans.
6. Ostrich Deluxe Chair
This Ostrich chair is here because of its relatively simple but functional lumbar pillow that is adjustable and kept in place with a strap. But it has so many other features that are behind the word Deluxe in its name, that it deserves to be here.
So this is a patented design, the chair is folding type, it has an adjustable footrest, and this is a recliner with 15 possible configurations. So I have included it in my list of best reclining chairs and best chairs with footrest.
It also has a great headrest with a completely unique and original design, wood armrests, storage elements, and they build it in 5 different colors.
7. OzTent Gecko Camping Chair with Lumbar Support and Swivel Table
The Gecko comes with the adjustable lumbar support, the same system used in several of their chairs presented here in the list. But this chair has several other remarkable features. It is with solid and padded armrests, so the packed size is not so great yet it comes with a carry bag shown in the picture above. I can tell you that there are no many chairs with solid armrests of this type that have a bonus bag.
From the name you realize also that it comes with a table. You can position it in front of you and also on the side, so you have several positions for it. There are two locking mechanisms for this purpose.
The chair is padded, the frame is steel and the setup is incredibly easy, just unfold it in one simple move. If you want to see some numbers, the weight is 12.1 lb (5.5 kg), the capacity is 330 lb (150 kg) and the seat is at 18 inches (46 cm) above the ground.
8. OzTent Goanna Camping Outdoor Chair with Lumbar Support
The Goanna chair which you see in the picture above comes with an adjustable lumbar support system and this is why it is in the list. So you have a strap that runs behind the back, and with two toggles on the sides you adjust the lumbar curvature while sitting on the chair.
But it has several other nice features as well. Those include a very good carry bag which is shown above, and also adjustable soft armrests. Yet another unique feature is its replaceable metal feet. This is not all, you also have padding throughout the chair, and on both sides there are insulated cup holders plus small storage pockets with Velcro closure flaps.
If you want to see some numbers, the weight is 10.4 lb (4.7 kg), the packed size is 39.4 x 7.1 x 7.1 inches (100 x 18 x 18 cm), and the capacity is 331 lb (150 kg). Please follow the link for more.
9. OzTent King Kokoda Camping Outdoor Chair with Lumbar Support
This OzTent chair is here because of its lumbar support where you can adjust the lumbar curvature. But this is a chair with several other great features. It is a folding and collapsible type and the dimensions in the packed state are 39 x 12 x 7 in (96 x 32 x 20 cm).
The chair has solid armrests and it is with a headrest. In the headrest area you have a zippered pocket to store the carry bag when not in use, and to create a pleasant pillow which you see in the picture.
It is equipped with storage elements on both sides, so you have cup holders and pockets. It weighs 14.3 lb (6.5 kg), and the capacity is 331 lb (150 kg). Please follow the link for more details.
10. PORTAL Folding Camping Chair with Lumbar Back Support
This chair is one of those with frame integrated lumbar support design, so it is not adjustable. It comes with adjustable soft armrests with an integrated cup holder, and you have a carry bag included as well.
This is a collapsible type, one of those that remains large in one dimension only when packed in its carry bag. The packed size is 38.5 x 6 x 6 inches (98 x 15 x 15 cm).
The frame is a strong steel and you have strong 19 mm diameter tubes, so the capacity is good 350 lb (159 kg). Note also that this is a very affordable chair.
11. STRONGBACK Elite Folding Camping Chair with Lumbar Support
This is the largest chair (so far on the market) from the Strongback brand. So the dimensions are (W x D x H) 28.5 x 27 x 36.5 inches (72 x 69 x 93 cm), but the back section is not high enough to give a headrest. The seat is 23 inches (58 cm) wide. You have very ergonomic and nicely padded solid armrests.
The chair packs to its carry bag of the dimensions 44 x 11 x 6 inches (112 x 28 x 15 cm), which is equipped with dual straps so you can carry it in several ways, including the backpack-style.
The best part of it is its ergonomic lumbar profile which is one of those frame-integrated and it provides the best possible posture, ideal for people with a back pain and for elderly people because of its seat height which is 18 inches (46 cm), and such strong armrests. Note however that the feet design is such that it is best suited for a hard surface.
12. STRONGBACK Guru Folding Camp Chair with Lumbar Support
This Guru chair has all the same features as the Elite chair from this brand, but it is a bit lower and better suited for shorter people, perhaps women. The seat height is 16 inches (41 cm) but the other dimensions are quite good 32 x 27 x 34 inches (81 x 69 x 86 cm), and the capacity is the same as in the Elite chair.
The weight is 10.5 lb (4.8 kg) and the packed size is 40 x 6.5 x 6 inches (102 x 17 x 15 cm), so quite similar to the other chairs here.
The lumbar support is the same what you have in other chairs of this brand and this is quite unique on the market. Please follow the link for more details and for the updated price.
13. STRONGBACK Low Gravity Beach Chair with Lumbar Support
Lots of information about this chair is already in its name. The term ‘low-gravity’ here implies a really low seat which is 7.5 inches (19 cm) above the ground on the front and it is 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) above the ground on the back. So when you combine this with its frame-integrated lumbar profile, you get a really comfortable chair to relax and enjoy.
It is quite lightweight for such a type, it weighs only 8.5 lb (3.86 kg) and the capacity is 300 lb (136 kg). The packed size is also quite good 30 x 8 x 8 inches (76 x 20 x 20 cm). You realize from the picture that its armrests are solid and padded as well. The feet are with huge caps so it will perform great even on a sand.
14. STRONGBACK Prodigy Kids Folding Heavy Duty Camping Chair with Lumbar Support
This STRONGBACK Prodigy Kids Folding Heavy Duty Camping Chair with Lumbar Support is award-winning and ergonomic. It is very easy to use due to its folding design. It comes with a nice carry bag and at a fair price.
The chair has a large mesh pouch on the back, a botle holder, and soft armrests. The weight is 4.5 lb (2 kg), the capacity is 200 lb (91 kg) and the seat height is 11.5 in (29 cm). They give a 2-year warranty.
15. Timber Ridge Zero Gravity Chair Oversized Recliner
This Timber Ridge Zero Gravity Chair Oversized Recliner is with a lumbar support of a particular type. Namely, the headrest pillow which you see in the picture can slide down and it doubles as a lumbar support as well.
But the chair has many great features. It is huge and with an impressive 600 lb (272 kg) capacity. You also have a footrest, the chair is a recliner as well, and it is padded.
This is one of those that are described as zero gravity chairs, designed for deep relaxation. Note that it is heavy with its 24.8 lb (11.2 kg) of weight.
So, thank you for reading. This list of best camping chairs with lumbar support will regularly be updated as new good models appear on the market. You might want to bookmark it and visit from time to time.

( votes)Did I miss any great chair known to you? Please let me know, there is a comment box below, and I shall check it, other readers will appreciate your help. I wish you a pleasant day.
Hi,
I appreciate your thoughtful reviews. I tried the Strongback guru since I am 5.5 and 125. The lumbar support doesn’t hit me in the right place. Can you recommend which brand with adjustable support would suit a smaller person with severe back issues?
Thanks
Lynne
The Strongback Guru follows the concept of an integrated and fixed lumbar profile. If this does not work, perhaps try some of those chairs where lumbar support is adjustable. There are several of them here in the list and they are very different.
– Ostrich Deluxe Chair has a lumbar pillow.
– Jet Tent Pilot DX Camping Chair with Lumbar Support has fully adjustable lumbar support vertically and horizontally.
There are more, just check the list carefully.
Hi Jovo,
I’ve read lots of your lists tonight – I appreciate you compiling all this info, it’s so helpful.
Do you have a recommendation for very sturdy camp chairs/higher off the ground for people recovering from knee surgery? I currently have very little knee and quad strength and even at home can only sit in higher and sturdier chairs. Appreciate any pointers.
Hi Jade, thank you for the kind words. My guess is that you need a chair with solid armrests because this helps to get in and out of the chair. In combination with a relatively high seat this should work. So here are a few to consider:

If you tell me what kind you need (high backrest, padding, etc), I can suggest more. Let me know.
I need a high backrest, cool not hot, lumbar support for 330+ lbs 6’4” please suggest – please email me
Hi Ellen, you have plenty of options in my separate list of chairs with a high backrest and headrest. You will see that several chairs from the list here are also included there. These include the Coastrail chair, KingCamp Chair, and Ostrich Deluxe Chair.
Many of the Strongback chairs (including the Guru model) are no longer available. Any idea as to why?
This is all because of pandemic, supply lines are affected.
There is also another side of it, again because of the pandemic. You are directed by the search engine (according to your location which they detect) to the nearest store, so when you get information that the product is not available, this may be for you and not in general.
Thanks for well-written review. I notice you place a lot of emphasis on XL and extra-wide chairs. Have you ever thought of writing a review of chairs for short people? I’m 5’1″ and recovering from back surgery but all the chairs in your review (except for the Strongback Guru, which is no longer available) are designed for big & tall people. Just a thought.
Hi Maggie, in this particular list there are a few chairs that are suitable for shorter people. But you are right in general, I have already had one reader asking the same question, so I shall try to make a couple of lists of camping chairs for short people. Note that I have a separate list of beach chairs, they are far more than just beach chairs, suitable for camping as well, but they are all very low and very suitable for shorter uses.
Great article! I have a bad back and I found that the zero gravity chairs are the most comfortable for me. I can sit in mine for hours in front of the fire at night or relax and take a nap in it during the day.
Awesome chairs for bad backs.
Thank you Mike. My experience with that type is quite limited. Good to hear how it works for you.
