Which features to expect from a portable camping kitchen

The term portable camp kitchen implies a structure where you will prepare food and keep most of your cooking stuff. Therefore, it should have at least some of the following features, the more the better:

• A tabletop for preparing food or for grilling, the larger the better.
• Storage elements for food and utensils used in the kitchen. This can include various side tables, shelves, storage compartments, etc.
• Attachment elements for towels and utensils.
• A side stand for a grill or for other purposes.
• A sink.
• A lantern hanger.
• A good storage bag for transportation.

My list of portable camping kitchens

Here is my list with the kitchen tables listed by weight from lighter to heavier so you can easily realize where a table belongs regarding the weight:

1. Camp Chef Sherpa Table and Organizer

This table clearly shines in storage compartments. You have those four boxes which you can store inside. You can also keep them outside and use the storage compartment on its own.

The tabletop is not particularly large but this is an accordion-type aluminum structure and you can store it in a dedicated pocket on the back. The table weighs only 13 lb (5.9 kg), now you realize why it is in such a position here in the list.

2. Mountain Summit Gear Deluxe Roll Top Kitchen

This camping table is an aluminum construction that comes with large working spaces for cooking and grilling, and with a huge storage set on the side. Because of its storage compartment, it is also in my list of best camp tables with storage elements.

The weight is 13 lb 8 oz (6.12 kg), so it is quite light and this explains its good position in this list. It folds to 31.5 x 19.7 x 4.3 inches (80 x 50 x 11 cm). As you see, it becomes incredibly thin when folded.

3. Coleman Pack-Away Portable Kitchen

In this case you have a lot of space for cooking and for grilling. There are no many storage elements as you realize from the picture, but there are several attachment elements that include a lantern hanger and a hanger for utensils.

This is a fully collapsible structure and it is incredibly packable. Its packed shape is a box 32 x 11 x 4 inches (81 x 28 x 10 cm). So I have included it also in my list of best collapsible camping tables. The table with all the elements weighs only 13.9 lb (6.3 kg).

4. CampLand Outdoor Folding Table

In this set you have plenty of storage space and the main tabletop is huge. As you realize, there are two separate and removable compartments for storage. This storage system is 600D oxford polyester, quite strong and durable. The storage departments are zippered.

Note also that it is with height-adjustable legs and I have added it to my list of adjustable height tables.

The structure is nicely packable into a box of the size 23.62 x 18.5 x 3.96 inches (60 x 47 x 10 cm).

The system weighs 16 lb (7.3 kg) and its dimensions are (L x W x H) 47.24 x 18.5 x 27.36 inches (120 x 47 x 70 cm).

5. Browning Camping Basecamp Cook Station

This Browning Camping Basecamp Cook Station is what its name says, a camp kitchen table with an aluminum tabletop and an aluminum frame.

This is a very reliable and versatile collapsible camping system, and it offers a huge storage cabinet. This is why I have added it also to my list of camping tables with storage elements.

The table is quite tall and comes with a removable windscreen. The total weight is 16 lb 6 oz (7.4 kg).

6. Timber Ridge Camping Foldable Cook Table

This Timber Ridge Camping Foldable Cook Table is with a rather modest cooking surface. But it comes with plenty of storage area. The picture above shows its functional storage organizer with multiple shelves and pockets.

The table is completely folding so there is no assembly, you just open it. It folds in itself and it becomes a thin box. But you also have a carry bag included. This is why I have included it also in my list of best folding camping tables. The weight is 17.6 lb (8 kg).

7. GCI Outdoor Slim-Fold Outdoor Cook Station

In this GCI system you have so many side tables and two on the top extend enormously the main cook table which itself is not particularly large.

This is also a fully folding construction, so there is no particular assembly. I have added it to my list with best folding camping tables.

The words Slim-Fold in the name describe it when packed, the dimensions are 34.6 x 20.9 x 3.7 inches (88 x 53 x 9.5 cm). Note also that the frame is steel and the tabletop is a heat-resistant aluminum. The weight is 18.9 lb (8.6 kg).

8. Durable Ozark Trail Portable Camp Kitchen and Sink Table

This picture above shows you what this cooking station has to offer. So it includes a good size tabletop with a sink, a lantern hanger, quite a number of attachment and storage options.

The position in the list suggests it is moderately heavy, so it weighs 20.5 lb (9.3 kg). It packs thin to its included carry bag, and you will want to know that it is very affordable.

9. Giantex Folding Grill Table

Here you have a table with a nicely designed windscreen that is removable. You also have a large side table so you can use both of these top areas for cooking and grilling.

This is a very functional and versatile portable system that offers plenty of storage and attachment elements, collapsible and easy to assemble. When not in use, all the elements fit nicely in its included carry bag. The table weighs 21 lb (9.5 kg) and it is also very affordable.

10. Ozark Trail Deluxe Camp Kitchen with Storage and Sink Table

I would dare to say that this is one of the most complete camp kitchens here. As you see, you have the main tabletop for cooking and grilling, equipped with a windscreen. The side stand is with a removable sink, and you also have plenty of storage space in the pantry and also on the side stand.

Note that it comes with a carry bag, and all the frame elements which you see in the picture are pre-attached to each other. This makes it easy to use, just unfold and add the tabletop and the other removable pieces.

I have included it also in my list of best tables with storage elements. The complete set weighs 21.46 lb (9.7 kg), and you will want to know that it is very affordable.

11. Kamp-Rite Kwik Pantry with Cook Table

This Kamp-Rite Kwik Pantry with Cook Table is a collapsible structure so it packs to a small size, but it needs a very simple assembly. 

This is a functional camping table with an aluminum tabletop so you can use it for grilling, and the picture shows that it comes with a lot of storage space. I have included it also in my list of grilling tables. A carry bag is included, and the weight is 22 lb (10 kg).

12. GCI Outdoor Master Cook Portable Folding Camp Kitchen

What makes this system a camp kitchen are its numerous useful elements. It includes several side tables, storage elements, a lantern hanger, and even a soft non-removable sink with a drain.

The frame is steel and the tabletop is aluminum. The weight capacity of all these elements is huge, more than 170 lb (8o kg). This is why it is included also to our list of grilling outdoor tables.

This all folds as one single piece, and this is why it is also in our list of best folding camping tables. This is a large outdoor cooking station with practically all you need for your outdoor cooking.

The whole set weighs 22.7 lb (10.3 kg), this is good enough and portable for all that it offers.

13. Giantex Portable Camping Kitchen Table

This Giantex Portable Camping Kitchen Table is a fully collapsible and portable steel/aluminum construction, but its weight is 23 lb (10.4 kg) , so this is for car camping.

The picture above reveals that it offers lots of storage, and this is why I have added it also to my list of best camp tables with storage elements. It also comes with a removable sink that can be placed on the top. So I have added it to my list of camping tables with a sink.

Other features include a heat resistant tabletop so you can use it as a grilling camping table, a windscreen, and a carry bag is included. The overall dimensions are (L x W x H) 48 x 21.5 x 47 inches (122 x 55 x 119 cm).

The picture above tells you a lot. The prominent feature here is the lamp hanger, but the system also includes a huge zippered storage area with shelves.

This is a true cooking and grilling center with the main top table that is protected with a windscreen. The table has adjustable legs and I have included it in my list of height-adjustable tables.

The weight is 23.6 lb (10.7 kg) and the packed size is only 31 x 19.7 x 6 inches (79 x 50 x 15 cm).

15. Giantex Folding Camping Kitchen Table

This Giantex Folding Camping Kitchen Table comes with lots of storage space and with several top surfaces for cooking and preparing meals.

It partly folds for transport but some elements detach, so it is appropriate to describe it as a collapsible camping table. The frame is steel and the tabletop is aluminum. But there are also the side tables, shelves, a windscreen, and this all comes in a nice carry bag.

This system is portable but the weight is 27.5 lb (12.5 kg). The carry bag measures 31 x 19 x 5 inches (79 x 48 x 13 cm).

16. Coleman Pack-Away Deluxe Portable Kitchen

Here you have an incredibly functional structure with a cooking tabletop and a sink, plus its side stand for a grill.

But it includes also a side bin, a lantern hanger, and plenty of attachment options for utensils, towels, etc. The whole structure folds in itself for transportation.

This is a bit heavy construction and bulky when packed, so you have 33.07 lb (15 kg) of weight, and the packed size is 39.5 x 20 x 7 inches (100 x 51 x 18 cm). As you see it packs thin and it easily fits in narrow spaces.

17. Snow Peak Stainless Steel Kitchen Table

This is a reliable and versatile modular construction that can be extended with various elements from the same brand. But its basic configuration shown above can be used as a hanger for clothing and as a versatile camping table.

This is all a stainless steel and it is suitable for home and outdoor use. It weighs 34.1 lb (15.5 kg) and its overall dimensions (L x W x H) are 3.8 x 1.7 x 3.6 ft (118 x 54 x 110 cm).

18. Happybuy Portable Camping Kitchen Table

This Happybuy table is low on the list because of its weight which is 35.96 lb (16.3 kg). This is a collapsible structure and it comes with a carry bag.

How to choose your portable camping kitchen & Editor’s choice

So this was our list, it will be updated regularly and new items will be added when we find something worth adding here. This is why you might want to bookmark this text and check again.

Now, how to choose? Here are some criteria to consider, given in no particular order:

Weight

All the camping kitchens in the list are for places with motorized access, so the weight may not be your primary concern. But the weight difference can be by a factor of three, and this is a lot. This may be important for elderly users who would rather have an item that weighs 5 kg instead of 15 kg.

Note that the weight is not necessarily a bad thing. It may simply imply more features, or a much larger working area, or a stronger frame.

Packed size

The packed size of these camp kitchens is probably more important than weight. The space in the car trunk or in your trailer is limited. Luckily, practically all these items pack thin, although some may remain large in two dimensions.

This is dependent on their construction. Folding tables are normally always large in two dimensions.

Functionality

I guess this is one of the most important factors to consider. This is because of the different preferences of users, and the tables may have very different features. So you will know what your priorities are and you will choose correspondingly.

Ease of use

No doubt folding constructions are easier to set up than collapsible ones.  Some of the structures presented above you can make ready in just a few seconds. The collapsible tables imply some simple assembly. But in both groups you have structures that are very easy to use and you make them ready without any extra tool.
