Timber Ridge Director’s Chair with side table is a very lightweight folding camping chair with a bonus side table and a cup holder, easy to use, and affordable.
Key features & benefits
- Bonus side table.
- Cup holder.
- Two back versions.
- Very good price.
- 1-year warranty.
What type of chair is this
Here you have a folding chair so it is without assembly, you unfold or fold it in one simple move. But the design is such that when packed it remains large in two dimensions, though it is rather thin and flat so you can store it in narrow spaces. I have included it in my list of best folding camping chairs. See how you fold it (or make it ready in the opposite direction):
Note also that they have two versions:
- with a full back fabric and
- with a partial fabric, you can see them above.
The functionality is the same in both, but there are differences in the price, more below.
The chair is also with solid armrests and they are padded. This is a good feature which adds to the comfort and it helps a lot when you get in and out.
Who is it for
Capacity-wise, the chair is quite typical, it supports up to 300 lb (136 kg) of weight. So this is good enough for most users. But if you need something stronger, check this list.
Weight-wise, the chair is surprisingly lightweight. You will realize this also from the comparison table below. It weighs only 7.36 lb (3.34 kg) and this is remarkable for such a type.
But its packed size is not so great, 35.83 x 21.26 x 7.09 inches (91 x 54 x 18 cm), see the picture below. Though again, this is quite typical for such a type, you will see several of them in the comparison table below.
All in all, this is a portable chair but you need a car for transportation. It is suitable for camping, traveling, picnic, and you name it. It does not have any carry element like a carry bag, strap, or handle. Pity.
Materials & construction
The frame is aluminum and this explains its great weight. The fabric is a breathable polyester.
The seat is a good size (W x D) 21 x 14 inches (53 x 36 cm) and the back section is vertical, no recline. So you can use this at the camping table. The seat height is 18 inches (46 cm), so this is quite moderate.
I have seen people asking if the chair can be used on any surface, and if it would sink. The answer is yes, you can use it anywhere. It has 4 feet with rubber caps so this is perfect for any hard surface. On the other hand, if you use it on a sand or grass, the feet will sink, but this is very limited. You have horizontal bars which prevent any further sinking and it becomes very stable on such a soft ground.
Note that they give a 1-year warranty against any defective workmanship and material.
The side table
The table is 12 x 8 inches (30 x 20 cm) in size. This is a flip-down design for small items like a phone, drink, or books. This is a sort of a hard plastic and you also have a cup holder. It folds for transportation and when you use the chair at the table. I have seen people asking if it can be removed. It is riveted, not designed to be removed. But you can always fold it. I have included it in my list of best folding camping chairs with a side table.
Below you see the chair with all the important numbers showing its dimensions.
Good and less good features
Here is my short summary:
- Very stable on any terrain.
- Padded solid armrests.
- Very easy to use.
- Bonus side table.
- Great price.
- Not great packed size.
The price & rating
There are two options as mentioned above, with full back fabric and partial, and they are also in different colors. The two prices on Amazon are $50 and $65, and I find this fair for the value.
There are more than 380 reports by customers on Amazon, and the average rating for this chair is incredibly high 4.6/5. My rating is lower, I use the same criteria for all chairs in the site, so it is better to check the relative value when you compare the chairs, than the absolute value. See my rating:

Timber Ridge Director’s Chair vs Competitors
Here you have this chair side by side with the Kamp-Rite chair which is also with a side table, and the Alps Mountaineering in the same style but without the side table. As you see, the Timber Ridge chair’s weight is remarkable, but its capacity is lower than the other two, and they all remain big when packed. Please follow the links for more.

I would summarize this Timber Ridge Director’s Chair review by stressing again that this is a very reliable and quality chair by a renown brand, and a great value for the money. If you accept its packed size as a part of the design typical for such a type, then it is hard to find any true objection to this chair.
Note that they have yet another very similar Timber Ridge Laurel Director’s Chair which is with a cooler and a side table.
You might also want to compare it with this Stylish Camping Full Back Folding Director’s Chair built in the same style and also the KingCamp Heavy Duty Compact Chair. But see also this Coleman Portable Deck Chair With Side Table which has a different legs design.
