What type of camping chair is this

The KingCamp Heavy Duty Compact Chair is a folding chair of a particular type, so it does not need assembly and you deploy it in seconds. Equally fast it is to fold it. This is one of those that remain large in two dimensions, but as I said it is rather specific because you fold it twice, you will see how this is done in the video below.

I guess this is why they use the word Compact in the name. I have included it in my list of best folding chairs.

So this is a clever design and the packed size is very reasonable for a chair of such a type. When packed, it is almost square 20 x 19 x 6 inches (51 x 48 x 15 cm). As you see it is rather thin, and you will not have problems to store it in some narrow spaces at home, or in your car trunk and in your trailer. There is a comparison table below, and you will realize how different its packed size is.

But the truth is, it is far from compact. If you need something really small in the packed size, check some of these backpacking chairs or these collapsible camping chairs.

The chair is with solid and padded armrests, so getting in and out of it is easy.

Who is it for

Weight-wise, you have a chair that weighs 11.9 lb (5.4 kg), so it is far from lightweight, but this weight is quite typical for such a type.

Capacity-wise, nothing extraordinary, it is designed to support the users of up to 300 lb (136 kg). So although this is a nicely built chair, I miss seeing what is heavy-duty as its name suggests. Size-wise, the seat front is at 18.5 inches (47 cm) above the ground, so it is a bit low and perhaps more suitable for shorter people. But armrests will help even if you are a tall person. The seat size is (W x D) 17 x 23.6 in (43 x 60 cm).

I already mentioned the packed size which is quite good for such a type. So all in all, this is a camping chair that needs a car for transportation and it can be used for practically any outdoor activity at places with a car access.

Materials & construction

The frame is a powder coating steel, so this explains its relatively big weight. Note that you have no classical legs, two bars are on the ground instead. So this is good because the chair will not sink regardless of where you use it. This is a floor-friendly design and you can use it even in a large family camping tent without any danger for the tent’s floor.

They do not give any information about the fabric, but this is a synthetic and mostly mesh as the name of the chair suggests. So it will dry fast if it gets wet in the camp, and it is also very breathable.

As already mentioned, you have solid armrests and they are with a foam for padding covered in soft nylon mesh.

The side table

The side table is roughly speaking of the size 15 x 9 inches (38 x 23 cm). It is also with an integrated cup holder which is around 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) deep and 3 inches (7.6 cm) in the diameter, so this is a very useful feature.

But one thing you will notice is that you cannot fold down the side table until you fold the chair itself. This is not so great for example if you want to use this chair at a camping table and there are several people sitting around, it takes too much space due to its side table. The width with the open side table is 32 inches (83 cm).

There is no stuff sack to protect it from dust when you store it at home. But you have a handle to carry it around.
