So what is this is about

Here you have a collapsible outdoor sleeping system. This means it needs some simple assembly but this is easily done without any extra tool. This also implies that it packs to a relatively small size and it is convenient for transportation and to store at home.

This set includes many elements, see what you get:

  1. A military-style double cot.
  2. A freestanding two-person tent.
  3. An inflatable double-size mattress.
  4. A cover for the mattress.
  5. 2 Sleeping bags.
  6. 2 Inflatable pillows.
  7. Covers for the pillows.
  8. A foot pump.

There are also roof poles, awning poles, a hub element, a carry bag.

The meaning of 4-in-1

Here you have an incredibly versatile set and it allows for a variety of ways of using it, so it is more than 4-in-1. See what you can do with it:

1. You have a separate double-size cot (see the picture). So you can use it as a spare bed for guests at home. You can use it also in any large family camping tent as a cot with your partner. So I have included this product in my list of best double cots.

As you realize, this is a military-style cot. This means there are only two end bars that should be added. All the rest (the frame and the bed deck) are preattached and you simply fold it and unfold it.

2. You can use the included 2-person tent separately because it is fully freestanding. You can use it with all the included bedding which you would put on the floor just like in any other camping tent.

The tent comes with stakes included so you can fix it to the ground, but there are no guylines.

3. As you realize from the name, this is a tent-cot so this is how you can use it; the tent is designed to sit on the cot:

4. All the elements of the bedding (the mattress with its cover, the pillows, and the bags) you can use separately from the cot and from the tent.

The cot

Being a military-type cot, it needs a simple assembly. The bed deck is permanently attached to the frame. So this all folds and packs together. The only separate elements are two end-bars which you pass through the sleeves on the narrow sides of the cot and attach to the frame.

The bed is large, you have 76 x 57 inches (193 x 145 cm) so this is more than enough for two users. You are around 16.5 inches (42 cm) above the ground and you can store lots of stuff under the cot, no matter if you use it in a larger family camping tent or as a tent-cot shown in the picture above.

The tent

This is a 2-person freestanding structure and this is also a single-layer tent with one door only. This is not so great in view of the fact that the door is on the side, so both users have no direct access.

But the tent has windows on all sides. These are 2-layer structures with mesh and with zippered panels. This gives complete protection and privacy when needed. Three of them are separate and one is on the door.

There is one small opening close to the bottom of the tent where you can pass the pump hose to inflate the mattress. You can use it also as an E-cable port.

Note that there are no separate vents on the tent. This can be an issue if you have to keep the windows fully closed (when it is raining).

The tent is fully enclosed with the floor just like in any other standard tent that you normally use on the ground. There are steel poles in the package and you can use them to create an awning shown in the top picture above. Two guylines are also included for this purpose.

The tent’s height is around 54.5 inches (138 cm), so it is very tall and roomy. The poles which support it are pre-bent so you have extra volume created with this design. When the tent is on the cot, the whole structure is 71 inches (180 cm tall).

The poles & support

There are 4 fiberglass poles that converge to a hub element on the top. They attach to the tent through grommets at the tent’s base and through the sleeves above.

Note also that the cot has holes close to the ends on its end-bars, so poles go through the grommets and then to the holes on the cot. This is one of the ways how the tent attaches to the cot.

But the tent also has loops on the corners and you attach them to the end-bars on the cot.

There are also Velcro tabs on the tent’s flap which you can see in the pictures. When you put the tent on the cot, you wrap the flap around the cot’s frame and fix it in place with Velcro.

The bedding

A double-size inflatable mattress is included. It comes with its own cover which is removable and washable, see the picture below. Note that the cover has straps that go under the pad and keep the cover in place.

There are also two pillows with their removable covers, and 2 sleeping bags as well. If you would rather have one double-size bag, check this list.

For such a large inflatable pad you need a pump so you have foot pump included. I mentioned an opening on the tent, so use it to inflate the pad from outside.

How you make the system ready

This is a collapsible system and it needs assembly separately for the cot and separately for the tent.

I would always make the cot ready first. So just unfold and add the two end bars, this is done in seconds.

Then put the poles in place and attach them to the grommets in the corners of the tent. After that position the tent on the cot and make sure that all the poles go through the grommets and in the holes on the end-bars of the cot.

Next, attach the loops of the tent to the end-bars. Now work around with the flap and its Velcro, wrap it around the cot’s bars and fix. You can roll up the door and fix above to the tent or create an awning.

Who is this tent-cot for?

Size-wise, obviously this is a bed for two. The width is great and the length is also not bad. The tent is tall so you can sit on the bed and still have plenty of room above the head.

But if you are a tall person, you might want to compare it with the Naturehike Cot Tent for 2 People.

Capacity-wise, with the declared capacity of 405 lb (184 kg) this is not so impressive for two people, but it should work fine for a couple.

Weight-wise, with its 50.5 lb (23 kg) this is not something to carry anywhere. This system is for places with a car access.

Seasons-wise & climate-wise, note that the structure is tall and I would not use it in a very windy area. There are no guylines to secure it to the ground.

With such a structure you can sleep literally anywhere because you can put it in the mud or in the snow and you will be above everything.

In the case of a rainy area you have to keep it closed and this is not great without vents.

If you use it in winter, add some extra insulation on the cot, or use an insulated sleeping pad.

Materials

The frame: This is a combination of steel and aluminum.

The poles: You have two sets, 4 fiberglass for the roof and steel poles for the awning.

The fabric: They claim it is waterproof but there is no number provided to support this statement. This is a high-density polyester and they describe it as an UV-resistant and weather-resistant material.

My rating, pros & cons

There is no extra mesh on the door. Pity they did not add it as a protection against insects when you create awning. The other thing that I mentioned above is the single door. Please see how I rate this system.

Take a closer look.

You might want to compare this double tent-cot with yet another similar, the Timber Ridge 2 Person Quick Setup Full Fly Cot Tent.

The Tangkula brand has also a one-person version in this mini-series. Note that they have yet another Tangkula double tent-cot which is a very different folding type.

  1. Heather Gable says:

In girl scouts we would put one side of the stick on then sit on the ground and use our feet to push the top of the X away from us while pulling the side towards us until it slipped on. Hope that was descriptive enough.

    1. Many thanks Heather, great to hear from you. Yes, I think it is descriptive enough.

    1. I guess this is because of the tension in the fabric, a bit of force is needed, this is more or less normal when the cot is new. Ask somebody who is a bit stronger to do this a few times for you and you watch, then set somebody lay down on the cot and the fabric might stretch a bit.
