This sleeping system is available on Amazon.
So what is this Tangkula 1-Person Tent Cot really
I must say I was delighted when I saw this product and you might be as well when you realize what it offers. This is a complete outdoor sleeping system that includes the following 6 crucial elements:
- A military-style cot.
- A freestanding tent.
- An inflatable mattress.
- A cover for the mattress.
- A sleeping bag.
- An inflatable pillow.
- A cover for the pillow.
But there are a few other elements, like the roof poles, awning poles, hub element, a pump, etc. You can see them in the picture above.
How you make it ready
So this is a collapsible system. The good in this is that it packs nicely and it is easy to transport. The bad is that it needs assembly,
- separately for the cot and
- separately for the tent.
You assemble both separately and then attach the complete tent on the cot. This is all easily done without tools or force.
When these two are ready, then you add the pad and other elements inside. So this system is completely different from their another Tangkula tent cot which is a folding type. What you have here looks like an improved version of the Haotian Tent Cot.
What is 4-in-1
They describe it as a 4-in-1 system, but there is more to this. This is an incredibly versatile set that allows for the following ways of using it:
1. You can use the cot separately in any larger camping tent, or as a spare bed at home. Now, with the cot, you use the included mattress, pillow, cover, and blanket as well. This is why I have included this system in my list of best cots with air mattress. The picture shows it with all the other elements except the tent:
2. You can use the tent separately, it is fully freestanding. The meaning of this is that you have grommets that keep the poles in place. So again, you can use the included mattress, pillow, cover, and blanket as well, and sleep on the floor. The picture shows the tent used on the ground with the included bedding:
Note that the tent can be staked down, there are 4 stakes included in the package. But there are no guylines.
3. You can use the tent and cot in the combination which is usually called a tent-cot or cot-tent. This is what the top picture above shows.
4. You can use the mattress with its cover, the pillow, and the bag separately from the cot and from the tent, anywhere where you need it.
Actually, in view of its many components, it is more than 4-in-1, you can use the mattress and the pillow also separately, but you get the idea. A few words now about its components.
The cot
So this is a military-type folding cot that needs a simple assembly. This implies only adding the two end-poles. The rest of the cot is preattached, I mean the bed deck is already attached to the frame which you simply unfold.
The width is excellent, the bed measures 76 x 34 inches (193 x 86 cm) so this is a very wide cot indeed. But the length is just typical. The height is moderate 16.5 inches (42 cm). So you are well above the ground no matter how you use it, together with the included tent or separately in a larger tent, or at home. The picture below shows the cot alone, this is how you can use it on its own.
Because of the other elements in the package, I have included this all in my list of best cots for car camping.
The tent
This is a freestanding structure. You have a single-layer tent with one door and with windows on all 4 sides. All the windows are with mesh and panels for protection and privacy. So this provides lots of air circulation when you are able to keep the windows with mesh.
The picture shows how it looks when the door is closed. Two out of 4 windows are visible.
The tent is supported by 4 poles that converge to a hub element on the top, and they attach to the tent through grommets at the tent’s base and through the sleeves above. One of the corner grommets is shown below.
Note that the cot has holes close to the ends on its end-bars, so the end of the tent pole goes through the grommet (visible in the picture above) and then to the hole on the cot (shown below). This is one of the ways how the tent attaches to the cot at for corner points.
But the tent also has a flap around, and it is equipped with Velcro tabs and also with loops in the corners. So when you put the tent on the cot, you put the corner loops around the end of the bars (one is visible above) and also wrap the flaps around the cot’s frame and fix it in place with Velcro. This keeps the tent firmly attached to the cot.
The tent is a fully enclosed structure, with the floor just like in any other standard tent that you normally use on the ground.
There is one door and it is with dual zippers that allow for awning configuration. The steel poles for this are included.
There is a small opening on one of its narrow sides. This is to inflate the mattress when it is in the tent. But you can use this opening also as an E-cable port. It may give a bit if venting as well.
The tent alone is 47.5 inches (121 cm) tall, so this is high enough that you can sit on it normally. When you add it to the cot, the whole structure is 64 inches (163 cm tall).
What I dislike in the tent’s design is this: there is no extra mesh door. Pity they did not add it. When you create an awning, insects have a full access through the door.
The bedding elements
So here you have the mattress, pillow, sleeping bag, and covers for both mattress and the pillow. The picture below shows the thick inflatable mattress and its cover:
Note that the cover is removable and washable separately. The picture below shows the sleeping bag and the pillow with its included cover.
The cover of the mattress is equipped with straps that go under the mattress, and with Velcro tabs. This keeps the cover on the mattress.
But the sleeping bag is also equipped with loops (one is visible in the picture above), and there are mentioned Velcro tabs on the pad’s cover. So you can then attach the sleeping bag to the cover, it will stay in place and will not twist around your body when you turn in the bed during the night. This all is really nicely designed. You can see a bit of it in this picture:
There is also a foot pump included. You can use it through an opening they integrated on the narrow side of the tent. This allows you to easily place the pad inside, otherwise, when fully inflated it is difficult to get it in through the side door. The whole set can be carried in its included carry bag.
Who is this Tangkula 1-Person Tent Cot for?
Size-wise, you have seen the size of the cot, its width is impressive but it is not particularly long. The mattress separates you from its end-bars, so the whole length 76 inches (193 cm) is indeed a useful length.
Capacity-wise, the declared capacity is 300 lb (136 kg), quite moderate but good enough for most of the users.
Weight-wise: With its 30 lb (13.6 kg) for the whole package, this is not much, you have seen how many elements you have here. But clearly, this is not something to carry long distances.
Seasons-wise & climate-wise, there are a few things to consider. First, this set you can put anywhere and sleep, no matter if this is mud or snow or grass. But the structure is tall and I would not use it in a very windy area above the tree line or so. There are no guylines; the two that are included are meant for the awning.
On the other hand, if it is raining, you have to keep everything closed. So if it is also hot, it would not be great inside. But if you can keep the windows open, you will be great in a warm climate.
They claim it is waterproof, but there is no information about the waterproof rating.
Is it for 4-seasons?
I would say it might be used that way. The tent can be completely closed if you are using it in a cold environment. All the windows are with zippered panels. But there are no vents. This should be fine if you can keep some of the panels partly open to have some fresh air.
But you might want to add some extra insulation on the cot, or use an insulated sleeping pad.
The roof is steep and it will not accumulate the snow so easily, but the poles are fiberglass, bear this in mind.
Materials
The frame: This is a combination of steel and aluminum. You have seen its capacity, so this is strong enough.
The poles: You have two sets, 4 fiberglass poles for the roof and steel poles for the awning.
The fabric: They describe it as an UV-resistant and weather-resistant (whatever this may mean) high-density polyester. They claim it is waterproof and good enough for severe weather, but there is no number provided to support this statement.

Excellent coverage of tent-cots. Did I miss the packed size of the Tangkula 1-Person Tent Cot? Being a motorcyclist doing motocamping, packed size is important. Do you have this info that you could forward to me? Thank you.
Hi Paul, it is 39 x 9.5 x 9 inches (99 x 24 x 23 cm). I may be a bit long for a motorbike but you will know better.
