Description
Kamp Rite Compact Double is an enlarged version of the one-person Kamp Rite Compact Collapsible tent cot. Similar to the smaller model, here too you have the great 3-in-1 feature. This implies that both the cot and the tent can be used separately. This adds a lot to the versatility of this tool.
You have two zippered, polyester and mesh entry doors, one on each longer side of the tent. The frame of the cot supports up to 500 lbs (227 kg). This is a collapsible model, so it can be nicely packed into a compact bag of 12 x 12 x 45 inches (30.5 x 30.5 x 114.3 cm).
A rain fly is included in the package. You have doors on both sides.
The cot can be used separately, inside of a big family tent if you need it so, or it can be used as a separate cot at home, and as a bed in emergency situations.
The tent
On the other hand, the tent alone can also become your backpacking tool. Thus, you can use it in a camping together with the cot as the standard tent-cot, and then you can carry it in the pack if you go for an overnight hiking or mountaineering tour.

But one comment is in order: The KT Double Tent Cot has a different construction. Its side walls are vertical, and this gives much more volume inside the tent. As you see from the pictures above, the structure of the tent of the Double Compact model is just like in any ordinary ground tent, its sidewalls are not vertical.
The Double model has received a higher average rating by Amazon customers, than the Compact Double.
So now you might want to compare the tent alone of the Double Compact, with some standard good 2-person tents. Here are two examples:
- Nemo Galaxy 2P, with the size 229 x 137 x 102 cm,
- Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2, with the size 218 x 132 x 97 cm.
As you see the tent of the Kamp Rite Compact Double tent cot is in fact higher than standard backpacking tents (but it is also heavier), and it is also wider.

Does this have the bar down the middle I am looking for 1 that has it I have the cabelas but it is too large folded to fit in my jeep
Hi Jeffrey, yes this is a compact model with the bar in the middle. You can see it a bit in the video given there.
Note that they sell a separate double cot which is the same structure just without the tent attached to it and you can see it in my separate text and the central bar is clearly visible in the video.
When I first looked at the tent I was a bit confused. Now I see that this suckers sits off the ground.
You just crawl in and go to sleep. Nice. I like that the entire base of it is already together like in the video.
I remember I bought a tent for my 5 year old. This was years ago. It had these bendable poles. Me and my wife were baffled for hours then we bent the poles and it took us a matter of minutes.
Did it take you more than six minutes the first time you did it? Don’t you think it’s a good idea to do what you did in the back yard, set up the tent, before you do camping?
That way you can work out any confusion you may have in set up.

Hi Barry, yes this tool allows you to sleep off the ground, but it allows you to use the tent separately. This is what I mean by 3-in-1 tool. You are right, practicing a bit in the yard can only be useful. But setting this thing up is really not complicated. By the way, there is a model for kids, you can see it here.
