What type of chair is this

Helinox has many chairs on the market so it is easy to get confused in particular because of their very similar names. So do not mix this chair with their Chair One, Chair Zero, or Rocking Chair Two presented in my other texts. They are all different.

But these all are collapsible chairs, and the same holds for this Camp Chair. This implies assembly which is easily done in seconds, the frame is all one single shock-corded piece which includes several tubes. It is built in several colors which you can see in the pictures.

Who is it for

Capacity-wise, the chair is strong enough to support the weight of up to 319 lb (145 kg). So this is remarkable and good enough for most of the people. But if you are very heavy, check this Alps Mountaineering King Kong chair.

Weight-wise, with its 2.9 lb (1315 g), the chair is light enough to be carried attached to the pack, but perhaps only for some shorter walks. If you need something for backpacking, better check some of these ultralight chairs.

So this is a camping tool, and you can transport it in various ways, in the car, on a bicycle and a motorbike. Its packed size is quite good, in the carry bag it is around 19.7 x 5.5 x 4.5 inches (50 x 14 x 11.5 cm). If you are camping or going to a music festival, or fishing, this is the tool to have with you.

Materials & construction

All the materials used in the construction are the top quality. The frame is TH72M aluminum alloy by DAC. The TH72M as the strongest and the lightest, and also the most durable alloy ever made. It is exclusively used by DAC and Helinox.

The DAC is the leading manufacturer for tents poles, and the frame here is the same by nature. So the sections are shock-corded and you cannot lose any piece. Due to this you can set it up even in the darkness. The poles are permanently attached to the hub elements shown in the picture below. You will see more in the video.

The fabric is very durable 600D polyester with mesh sections on the back and on the sides for a better breathability.

The rubber caps on the legs are great for a hard surface, but such a legs structure is not great for sand and for a soft ground. Note however that they have built the Helinox Ground Sheet (shown in the picture below) that can be used for such soft surfaces. You simply attach it to the legs and the net will prevent sinking.

Note that the instructions are printed on the seat. The back goes roughly to the height of your shoulders so you have a good back support and can lean back comfortably.

It comes with a nice stuff sack which is shown in the picture above. It has loops to attach it to the pack. Please see more about the chair in this video, they show the Sunset and Camp chairs:

Final thoughts

In the summary of this Helinox Camp Chair review, I would stress again the lightweight and quality materials used in the construction of this chair. This is a reliable brand and a nice product but it comes at a price. I am sure it is worth the investment. I have included it in my list of the best collapsible camping chairs. You might want to compare it with the Helinox Sunset Camping Chair which is a taller model.
