Overview

This Grand Rapids Chair Stool is a folding construction that you expand in seconds, and equally easy you can store it in its carry bag. Below you can see how it looks when folded and stored in its included carry bag.

The dimensions when so packed are (L x D) 31 x 6 inches (79 x 15 cm). So indeed it is thin, but it is quite long when packed.

The seat is triangular and it continues into an angled backrest. The picture below shows how the chair looks from the back side. Observe the two different colors, so you can order any of the two options. 

The frame is a powder-coated steel. So you have three legs, but note the X-shaped support bars on all three sides. This adds a lot of strength to the structure and stabilizes it against lateral movement. 

In the picture below you can see one of its zippered mesh pockets, there are two of them. Note also the reinforced corners, and the angled top backrest part. The height of the backrest from the chair is around 13.5 inches (34 cm). 

As you see, the fabric is in fact a very strong mesh, so if it gets wet it will dry in no time. Such material is great if you use the chair in a warm environment.

I particularly like the feet design, they are very wide so they will not easily sink in the ground. With a bit of care, you can surely use the chair in a floored family camping tent.

Who is it for

Regarding the capacity, there are two different numbers around, even on the manufacturer’s site they write 300 and 375 pounds (136 and 170 kg). In any case, this should be good enough for most users. But if you need something for a really heavy person, please check these camping chairs for heavy people.

Regarding the dimensions, note that they describe it as providing ‘comfort of a chair with the ease and portability of a stool’. They also write about ‘extra-wide seating area’.

The reality is that this is a small chair in every sense, you will see below how I rate it. But this is a hybrid construction, so you cannot expect more from such a design.

Regarding the weight, the chair weighs 5 lb 6 oz (2.44 kg), this is official from the manufacturer’s site. I am stressing this because you will see the number 5 lb mentioned at many places. So the chair is lightweight, but see also this Pacific Pass Easy Carried Tripod Chair that is much lighter.

I already gave its packed size above, it is a bit long to be transported on a motorbike. 

Regarding the price, this is a really great value/money combination.
