What this GCI Outdoor ComPack Rocker Chair is about

Did you know that GCI in the name of this brand stands for ‘great chairs innovations’? So here you have yet another extraordinary example of that type.

Rocking chair

GCI has many rocking chairs, but this chair is unlike anything on the market. It comes with a completely unique torsion rocking design. 

The most important part of this construction is the hub element under the seat shown in the picture below.

Here you have a shock-cord retention for easy setup and breakdown, and this is a technology that offers a smooth rocking motion on any surface. 

So this rocking feature will work anywhere. As you know, this is not so with classic rockers that cannot work on a soft ground and sand. This is why I have included it in my list of best rocking camping chairs.

Other details

If you would not know what you have underneath its seat, you would think this is an ordinary camping chair with a bucket style seat. But this “ordinary” still includes a number of great features.

So you have a padded seat, and you can see below how this looks. The padding goes partly up to the backrest, and there you have several mesh panels that will help keep you cool.

Note that the backrest is quite high so shorter users may also have a headrest where you have a bit of padding as well.

But for transportation this all folds into a small size, this is a folding chair with shock corded elements that needs a simple assembly. The picture below shows its dimensions in the included carry bag, so it is hard to believe that this is a true rocker.

Materials

The frame is a combination of steel and aluminum, there are hub elements that are probably some type of nylon material.

The fabric is polyester, they do not give more details about it. Note that there are two different colors available.

Who is it for

Regarding the capacity, it is typical, the chair is officially for users of up to 250 lb (113 kg). If you need more, please check among chairs for heavy people.

Regarding the dimensions, all of them are shown in the picture below. Observe that the backrest is quite high. The seat height is given on the front, but it is deep and there are no armrests, so elderly users may find it difficult to get in and out.

Regarding the weight, the chair weighs 7.9 lb (3.6 kg), so for a rocker chair this is remarkable. 

But even better for a rocker is its packed size, you have already seen the numbers. Below you can see how you can carry it attached to the shoulder. You can transport it also on a bicycle. Now you understand the meaning of the phrase ComPack in its official name.

With such features the chair is indeed versatile and suitable for almost any outdoor activity.

Regarding the price, it is a bit steep but this is a high quality chair from a brand that is specialized in outdoor chairs.
