Who is it for

In view of its 16.5 pounds (7.48 kg), this cot can be used anywhere at places with a car access and among others, those include the following places and activities:

  • trailhead hotels,
  • summer camping places,
  • summer open-air music festivals,
  • hunting cabins,
  • fishing places,
  • works in remote places,
  • beaches.

I see it also as a nice tool to have at home for sudden overnight guests, and for emergency situations in general.

 Description

The Coleman Ridgeline III Camp Bed is clearly designed to fill in the gap between the other two famous foldable cots from the same brand, the Coleman ComfortSmart Cot and the Coleman ComfortSmart Cot Deluxe. This you can see if you compare the numbers in the table below.

The Ridgeline III Camp Bed features a durable steel frame and a soft foam mattress. It can easily support any weight up to 225 lb (102 kg). The mattress is with different colors on the two sides.

The bed fabric is attached to the frame through a series of steel springs, so it creates a tensioned surface which children will probably like to use as a trampoline. The fabric is nice dark green color and the same color is the underside of the pad.

The bed is with three bars on the ground, so it is very stable, and there are no bars riding under the fabric to hit you from below.

See how the Ridgeline III fits right in the middle between the two celebrated cots:

ComfortSmart Cot 69 x 25
(175 x 63)
34.3 x 25.4 x 5.5 (87 x 64 x 14) 14 (6.35)
ComfortSmart Cot Deluxe 80 x 30
(203 x 76)
39.6 x 30.7 x 5.5 (101 x 78 x 14) 19.3 (8.7)

All three cots are with very similar features, all come with a foam mattress included, and all are foldable type.

I would say the Ridgeline III Cot is just right size, its 74 x 26 inches (188 x 66 cm) bed provides a lot of comfort for the majority of people. It fits a person up to 6 ft 2 in. Clearly, the ComfortSmart Cot is too short for many, and the ComfortSmart Luxe too long for most of the users.

The setup

There is not much to say here, more simple it cannot be; all you have to do is just to undo the Velcro strap which keeps the bed folded and open it up. The mattress is normally stored on the underside where the legs are, so you take it out, set the cot on the legs and put the pad on it. This is the job done.

FITTING IN THE TENT

The cot is 15.25 inches (39 cm) high, so it can easily fit in any 2-person tent, perhaps even in some solo tents as well.

Its bed size of 74 x 26 inches (188 x 66 cm) may look like it would occupy most of the space in such a tent, but think about the huge volume you have under the cot, where you can store all your gear.

Pros & Cons

My summary looks as follows:

Good Less good
• Mattress included.
• Express setup.
•
Very comfortable.
• Very reliable.
• Durable materials.
• Great size.
• Great price.
•  No stuff sack.

The list of Pros is long. There is not much really to object to this cot. It would be great to have a cover or carry sack, but this is not a big deal.

The price & users’ experience

At the moment of writing this text, the Amazon price of this cot is in the range $70 – 75. There are many customers’ reviews at various sites (but just a few on Amazon), in particular at Walmart and the average rating is extraordinary high, 4.5/5. See below the breakdown of my own rating:

Summary

So to conclude this Coleman Ridgeline III Cot Review, what you have here is a very reliable and comfortable system with a price which is hard to match. This is a foldable camping cot, reasonably heavy for such a design and purpose. I can fully recommend it for sleeping outdoor at any place with a car access.

  1. I just purchased the Coleman Ridgeline 3 cot.
The dimensions are incorrect it is not 26 inches wide it’s 24 3/4.
I am disabled and cannot return big items easily I have to ask for a ride to transport the cot.
I explained this to the store manager at Walmart and asked if I could get a discount for this item she said no
I am disappointed with this purchase.

    1. This is very bad to hear, cannot be of much help, the links here in the text are to Amazon. As for the dimension, this is the official number from the manufacturer. So if you measure and get a different result, then they were selling an incorrect product. I am really sorry to hear this. I do not sell them from my site.
