What type of table is this
This ALPS Mountaineering Simmer Table is a new product of this brand. So this is a collapsible design and this means that it needs a simple assembly, but this is done in seconds. You simply unfold the frame shown below, and then attach its reinforced tabletop.
It is relatively low so this is a camping side table, nicely packable, and it comes with a carry bag shown below. In view of all these features, I have added it to my list of best collapsible caping tables.
I have to say that I am not so impressed with the feet, some plastic or rubber caps would make it far more floor-friendly.
Who is it for
Size-wise, for a side table this is an impressive piece, the tabletop measures 31 x 20.5 inches (79 x 52 cm). So this is large enough for two campers. Note that you have two cup/bottle holders, so this itself indicates two potential users.
The height is 18 inches (46 cm) so this is a typical side table and it is best to use it in combination with some very low camping chairs.
They do not provide the weight capacity for the table. The frame is very strong steel, but the tabletop is less impressive. It is indeed reinforced and built from a durable 420D polyester honeycomb ripstop fabric, see the picture:
Weight-wise, with its 5 lb 11 oz (2.58 kg) this is a very light camping table. But it is not in the group of those ultralight backpacking tables. Check their ALPS Mountaineering Dash Table if you need something ultralight.
Regarding the packed size, when in the carry bag this is a tube that measures (L x D) 33 x 4 inches (84 x 10 cm). So it is indeed very thin but at the same time, it is a bit too long to be carried attached to a pack or on a bicycle.
All in all, this is a table for places with a car access, suitable for camping, picnics, and for any similar activity.
