So what this ALPS Mountaineering Simmer Chair is about
Here you have a collapsible camping chair that they launched together with their Simmer camping table so you order them together if you wish. Being collapsible, it needs a simple assembly.
But this implies only unfolding its frame and attaching the sling on it. Below you see the chair from the back, so all you have to do is to attach the sling to those 4 ends of the frame. There are small reinforced pockets on the sling where you slide the poles’ ends. As you see, there are also long pull-loops that will help you to attach the seat on the poles.
This all is done in seconds and without extra tools. So as you realize, these two elements are all you have here, plus a nicely designed carry bag shown below. The top picture above shows that you can attach it and use it as a storage pouch to keep your stuff off the ground.
The materials
The frame is a sturdy steel structure and this is basically all one single piece because its segments are all shock-corded and permanently interconnected. So making it ready is easy and fast, and you can never lose any element of it.
The fabric is a durable 420D polyester honeycomb ripstop, and you also have nylon mesh center fabric, so this is a great design for summer camping.
The feet are with some caps and you also have two massive hub elements where the frame poles converge.
Who is it for
Regarding the price, this is an incredibly affordable chair for such a brand and for its overall quality, suitable for everybody’s budget.
Regarding the packed size, this is an impressive camping chair, and you realize this when you see its carry bag with the dimensions of 17.5 x 6 x 4 inches (44 x 15 x 10 cm). I have added it to my list of best collapsible camping chairs.
Regarding the weight, this is a very light camping chair, though not in the category of ultralight backpacking chairs. But with the weight of 4 lb 6 oz (1.98 kg) and the mentioned packed size, this is definitely a backpack-portable chair.
Regarding the weight capacity, this chair is just typical, designed to support up to 275 lb (125 kg). This should be good enough for the majority of users. The side view below shows the dual poles that connect the frame so this is a very stable and sturdy structure.
Regarding the dimensions, the size is (W x D x H) 25 x 23 x 26.5 inches (64 x 58 x 67 cm). So for such weight and packed size this is surely great.
Note that the seat is quite low, 13/12 inches (33/30 cm) from the ground (front/back, respectively).
Using the chair in the tent
With such narrow caps on the feet, I would not use it in a floored tent. But this is a low chair that will fit nicely in most of the floorless porches and larger vestibules on family camping tents.
