ALPS Mountaineering Ready Lite Low Chair is a collapsible type, light enough and nicely packable to be carried on the trail.
Key features
- Collapsible chair.
- Very light & compact when packed.
- Reasonable price.
What type of chair is this
So here you have a collapsible chair, which therefore needs assembly when you want to use it. You will see in the video below how to do this, it is easy, without tools, in seconds.
The frame includes 4 separate poles 7000 series aluminum, and a hub element which you see in the picture above. The seat is a combination of a 420D polyester honeycomb ripstop fabric and a nylon mesh.
They describe it as stable but the footprint is rather narrow, this in particular on the front where it is defined by the hub element which is the first area of contact with the ground. The two back poles create legs so you have another two areas on the ground.
This is a good design where the weight is spread over those three contact areas, so the chair will not sink easily regardless of the type of the groud. This is surely much better than any design with classic 4 legs and 4 feet.

Who is it for
Weight-wise, with its 2 lb 6 oz (1.08 kg) this is an ultralight chair. Though I did not include it in my list of best backpacking chairs where the upper limit is 1 kg. But it is in the list of best collapsible chairs.
In any case, it is light enough to be carried attached to the backpack; whether or not you would use it as a backpacking chair is a matter of personal choice. But you might want also to compare it with this unique Helinox Incline Festival chair with adjustable front legs and with almost the same weight.
Capacity-wise, the chair’s declared weight capacity is modest 250 lb (113 kg). This is still more than strong enough for me but not for very heavy people.
Size-wise, for such a light item, the dimensions are appropriate (W x D x H) 22 x 26 x 12 inches (56 x 66 x 30 cm). Note that it is very low so most likely not the best option for elderly users, see the picture.

ALPS Mountaineering Ready Lite Low Chair vs Competitors
To understand the features of such a chair it is useful to see how it compares with similar chairs on the market. So I have decided to show you two of them from the same weight range, the Travelchair Joy and Big Agnes Mica Basin. Those are both new items on the market and from renown brands.
This Ready Lite Low chair is much lower as you would expect from its name, and with a smaller capacity. But note that it has a better feet design which does not sink in the ground. Please follow the links for more.
