What this is about
This Mountain Summit Gear Compact Cot belongs to the group of collapsible cots, and this means it needs a simple assembly.
This implies placing the two side loops into the sleeves and then attaching the legs. All is done easily and without force.
But this term ‘collapsible’ also implies that it packs to a small size, and this is behind the word Compact in its name. It all fits into the included elegant zippered carry bag with carry straps shown below.
The dimensions of the carry bag and the cot when packed are 32 x 11 x 3.5 inches (81 x 28 x 9 cm). So it can be described as moderate size when packed.
I would stress that there are many more compact collapsible cots on the market. For example, you can compare it with the ultra-compact Robens Settler Bed and the Ascend Lightweight Cot. Their packed volume is only 8.7 and 8.8 liters, respectively.
Now compare this with 20.4 liters packed volume of the Mountain Summit Gear “Compact” Cot. You see the point?
However, as you realize, the carry bag of this cot is indeed incredibly thin, just 9 cm, and I must say this is rarely seen.
The materials
The metal parts include two shock-corded side poles shown in the picture below. There are also no less than 5 folding leg poles on each side that include feet made of some plastic material, most likely nylon.
The bottom V-shaped bars connect feet and stabilize the cot. They determine the length of the packed cot. This is all a powder-coated steel.
The fabric is a typical material for such cots, a durable 600-denier polyester fabric.
One good feature here is that the feet are very large, see the picture, and there are 10 of them. This means the weight is distributed and it is safe to use the cot even in a floored camping tent.

Regarding the capacity, the cot can be described as typical with its 300 lb (136 kg) official capacity. For most people this should be perfectly enough, but if you need more, please check in my list of cots for heavy people.
Regarding the dimensions, the bed measures 74 x 28 inches (188 x 71 cm). So the length is indeed not so impressive and if you need something much longer, check my collection of cots for tall people.
But the truth is that there are no end bars here, so the mentioned length is the true useful length.
You have 10 inches (25 cm) clearance from the ground, so this is a lot of volume to store your gear underneath the cot.
Regarding the weight, in view of its 11 lb (5 kg), this is not something to carry long distances although they write about an ‘ultralight sturdy leg frame’.
But they also describe it as a camping cot, and this should be understood as a car-camping, so the weight is not a big deal in any case.
You have already seen its packed size, so you cannot transport it on a motorbike or bicycle.
