Overview

This Helinox Speed Stool is a folding construction with all the pieces preattached to each other. This includes the seat fabric as well. So there is no assembly, it is ready in a couple of seconds. The picture below shows it from the top. 

The chair folds for transportation as shown in the picture below. It becomes an incredibly small and thin bundle. You can see the legs tubes that are shock-corded to the rest of the frame :

So folded it stores easily in its included carry bag shown below. It measures only 16.5 x 3.5 x 3.5 inches (42 x 9 x 9 cm).

Materials

They use a proprietary DAC aluminum alloy frame without plastic connectors. The DAC is the leading brand in the world for tent poles, and they use the same technology for the camping furniture of Helinox. The picture below shows the details from the X-crossed legs:

Equally important for its lateral stability are the connectors between the horizontal seat bars and the legs. See one of them in the zoomed picture:

This design is very different from what you can see in this Big Agnes Skyline UL Stool where there are no horizontal seat bars.

The fabric is a UV-resistant polyester. Note that the feet are with very small caps. This limits its use and it will not work well on soft grass or on the sand. You should not use it in a floored family camping tent.

Who is it for

Regarding the capacity, it is quite modest 220 lb (100 kg) but this is still good enough for the majority of potential users.

Regarding the dimensions, you have what you would expect from a camping stool with such a weight. So do not expect lots of comfort with such a structure. The seat is 11 inches (28 cm) high.

From what I have seen around they launched several different chairs. I have seen the sizes S and M, but this chair is not one of them, its dimensions are somewhere in between. In any case, it is quite low.

Regarding the weight and packed size, this stool is simply incredible. It weighs 1 lb (0.47 kg) and the carry bag size you have already seen.

So you can easily carry it in the side stretch pocket in your day hiking pack, and you can also transport it in any way possible.

Regarding the price, Helinox products are normally very expensive, but this tiny stool looks reasonably affordable. Note also the incredible 5 years warranty which you have with this product.

There are no many brands that can match such warranty conditions. So Helinox shows lots of confidence in their stuff, and you know what you are buying when you choose their product.
