Key features & benefits

  • Collapsible.
  • Aluminum frame.
  • Carry bag included.
  • Backpack-portable.

What type of camping chair is this

This ALPS Mountaineering Dash Chair is a collapsible camping chair and this implies a simple assembly. This is easily done because you have practically only two elements, a shock-corded frame and the seat fabric which you attach on the frame at four points.

The chair clearly follows a new trend in this industry, so you have no plastic elements in the frame. You can see this in the picture below. The only plastic elements are the caps on the legs. Something similar you can see also in the Big Agnes Mica Basin Camp Chair.

The chair comes with a nicely designed carry bag (the picture is shown below). Note that it can clip to the front (as shown in the picture above) or to the back of the chair so that you can use it as a zippered accessory pouch.

As mentioned above, they built this chair to be used together with their Dash Camping Table so you have two essential nicely packable and backpack-portable items for your camp kitchen.

The metal parts here are aluminum, and the fabric is a 420D polyester honeycomb ripstop fabric. The central area is a nylon mesh for cool airflow.

Who is it for

Regarding the weight, with its 3 lb 2 oz (1.42 kg), this is a very light chair but it is not in my list of ultralight backpacking chairs. So I have included it in my list of best collapsible camping chairs.

Regarding the packed size, its carry bag shown above is 17.5 x 6 x 4 inches (44 x 15 x 10 cm) so it is indeed nicely packable and backpack-portable. You can transport it also on a bicycle.

Regarding the size, in view of its dimensions (H x W x D) 27 x 23 x 21 in (69 x 58 x 53 cm), this is not bad for the chair of this type. You might want to compare these numbers with the famous Big Agnes Chair One, or with the mentioned Big Agnes Mica Basin Camp Chair, both are much lighter.

Regarding the capacity, this chair supports the weight of up to 250 lb (113 kg) so this is not bad for such a type.

My rating, pros & cons

Please see how I rate this chair against my standard set of criteria so you can easily compare it with other chairs built in the same style. I am not showing the price as a rating criterion because this is something that changes all the time and it is dependent on the seller as well.

Final thoughts

There are many backpack-portable chairs of this type on the market.  They may look fragile but their weight capacity is usually impressive.

Nevertheless, to put your mind at ease, it is always good to go for a reputable brand so you know what you are buying, and this holds even if you have to pay a bit more. This ALPS Mountaineering Dash Chair review is about a chair from such a globally known brand, and this is one of the reasons why I can fully recommend it.
