As mentioned above, this is an Amazon’s Choice product. This means that Amazon recommends it as a highly rated, well priced, and ready to ship immediately.
What type of cot is this
Here you have a typical military-style cot. This means the cot is with bars on both ends, and with side bars, and it needs a simple assembly when you need it.
So this is a collapsible and folding cot, but it has only 3 pieces, these include two end-bars and the frame with the preattached bed fabric. This all fits in its included carry bag shown in the picture.
The mentioned assembly implies simply unfolding the cot and then adding the two bars at the two ends. This is done easily without any tool. In the beginning, you might need a bit of brute force when you add the second of the two end-bars. This is normal because of the tension created in the fabric.
The pictures below show how you make this cot ready. There is a Quick Locking mechanism which locks the end bar in place:
If you would rather have something without assembly, check their instant setup cot.
There is a storage system on the side, visible in the picture above. The carry bag is yet another bonus here. It has two handles so you can carry the cot short distances. It is useful also to keep the cot stored at home clean from dust.
The frame is steel and the bed deck is a 600D polyester fabric. Note that they back the cot with a full 1-year manufacturer’s warranty against any defective workmanship and material.
Who is it for
Capacity-wise, this is a rather typical cot with the declared 300 lb (136 kg) weight capacity. This should be fine for most of the potential users. But if you need a cot for a heavy person, please check my separate list of cots for heavy people.
Size-wise, here again, you have a rather standard cot with the bed dimensions 76 x 26 inches (193 x 66 cm). So the length is good but the width is not so great. If you need something much wider, check our extra-wide cots.
I mentioned two bars at the ends, so you should know that they take a few centimeters of the effective length. But they have yet another a bit different XL cot, so check it here if you are a tall person.
Weight-wise, with its 17.5 lb (7.9 kg) of weight, this is not a lightweight item. But this is a strong and stable all-steel construction so the weight is not necessarily a bad thing.
The packed size 37 x 7.5 x 5.5 inches (94 x 19 x 14 cm) is such that you need a car for transportation.
Using the cot in a tent
This is a tall cot, you have 16.5 inches (42 cm) clearance. This is good because you have lots of storage area underneath it for your camp gear. But this cannot fit into very low tents.
You have 6 large anti-slip feet so they are floor-friendly and the weight is distributed. But I would always add something underneath them to avoid potential damages of the floor.
Using a sleeping pad or not
In the case of summer camping, you can use a pad but you do not have to except for comfort. In winter you will need something, but you always need less insulation when you sleep off the ground.
Good and less good features
Here is my short summary:
- Very good price.
- Good length.
- Carry bag.
- Not so wide.
As of the moment of writing this text, this cot is on the market with the price of around $57. So this is a true bargain for such a cot.
This cot has collected a number of customers’ reports on Amazon, and the average rating is very high 4.3/5. Please see how I rate it against my standard set of criteria used for all the cots here in the site:

PORTAL Folding Camping Cot vs Competitors
To understand the features of this cot, it is a good idea to see how it compares with some other cots built in the same style and from the same length range. So here are some of its numbers compared with Slumberjack Emergency Cot and Coleman Trailhead II Cot.
As you realize, there is no big difference in the weight and in the packed size. But Coleman’s Cot is much wider, and it is the most affordable in this group and in general on the market.

So this PORTAL Folding Camping Cot is a quite typical military-type cot which you can make ready in under a minute. It packs to a thin bundle so you can keep it in its carry bag clean from dust and it will not take much space in the car trunk. The features are good, and the price is excellent for such a cot.
