Most of roof top tents are long and they offer plenty of length even for very tall people.
Though, in the case of clamshell roof top tents, the side where hinges are located may be quite low. This is because the lid may be at a small angle, it does not open wide, so you might not be able to use the whole length effectively.
So even if the tent is officially very long, your effective useful length may not be good enough for you if you are exceptionally tall.
But no worry, the roof top tents selected here are all of exceptional length, the shortest is 93 inches (236 cm) so imagine.
My selection of extra long roof top tents for tall users
The roof top tents in the list below are all almost the same length and the width is also very similar, this is just about a few centimeters difference.
So it makes no much sense to order them according to any of these parameters, and this is why they are ordered by weight from heavier to lighter.
1. Crua Outdoors AER Maxx
This AER Maxx is a soft shell roof top tent with the inner dimensions of 92.9 x 73.2 inches (236 x 186 cm). With this you have the floor area of around 4.4 square meters. So the tent is very long, and it is wide enough to accommodate three adults.
The tent unfolds when you need it for sleeping, so you have the usual extension on the side of the car where you see the ladder in the picture.
But note that they have added two additional telescopic poles for support. Such an addition stabilizes the tent a lot, and not many tents of this type have it in the package.
The peak height is 51.2 inches (130 cm) and the weight is 196 pounds (89 kg), so you realize it is quite heavy, and make sure that your vehicle can support it.
You have great materials here, the fly is a 210D ripstop polyoxford (i.e., a synthetic material) PU coated to 3000 mm waterproof rating. It has a silver coating for UV 50+.
The inner tent is a 190 gsm ripstop polycotton with a PU and 2000 mm rating, and the floor is a 210D polyoxford with PU coating and 2000 mm rating. So you see, you have two waterproof layers for protection from the rain, this is a shelter for year-round use.

2. Roofnest Condor XL
It is best to start with the dimensions, so its overall base size is 93 x 74 inches (236 x 188 cm). This is around 4.4 square meters.
The tent weighs 160 lb (72.5 kg), and the peak height is 50 inches (127 cm). When closed for transportation, the box on the roof is 13 inches (33 cm) high. Note that this is about a hard shell clamshell roof top tent.
Regarding materials, the Roofnest Condor XL shell is built from the ASA/ABS plastic, and the walls when open are made of a quality polycotton fabric. The fly is synthetic.

3. TentBox Lite XL
The numbers of this roof top tent are impressive, so to start with the dimensions which are 94.5 x 47.2 inches (240 x 183 cm).
This means you have an area of 47.4 ft² (4.4 m²). But observe its length, this is the reason for having it here in the list.
From the picture you probably realize, this is a soft shell roof top tent that unfolds and creates a large overhanging platform on the side of the car.
The tent is with openings on all four sides, you have three double-layer windows on its three sides, and the door is also with a window and panel. There are also two skylight windows.
It is built from a polycotton fabric and its waterproof rating is impressive 3000 mm, while the fly rating is 5000 mm. This is 8000 mm in total. There are several separate vents on the walls.
Here are a few more numbers, the weight is 137 lb (62 kg) and the weight capacity is 661 lb (300 kg). The peak height is 45.3 inches (115 cm).
Final thoughts
In summary, this selection of extra long rooftop tents for tall people includes some truly exceptional off-ground tents suitable for year round use and for any climate. I might add some more tents here later, so bookmark this post and keep as a reference.
Now, how to choose?
• You have two essentially different types, soft shell and hard shell. Both types are very easy to use, large and comfortable. The difference is in the shell of course. In principle, the hard shell is supposed to be more durable.
• Regarding protection, if this is about rain, you will be safe in any of them. You have seen their waterproof ratings, the numbers are incredibly high. But if this is about cold environment, I would go for the Crua AER Maxx. The reason is that this is a true double-layer tent, the fly covers it completely.
• There is also the issue of weight. As you have seen, the mentioned Crua tent is the heaviest. It weighs 43% more than the last tent in the list. So check in specifications of your car, the roof should be able to support such a weight.
