What is in the name

The Freein Double Camping Cot includes a cot with an integrated zippered sleeve for the pad, and an inflatable pad of a particular type. The focus of this text is on the double-wide cot, but they have also twin long and twin standard cot versions.

As its official name suggests, the cot is designed for two people and here you can see how it looks when ready to use.

Having two separate products in one implies that you can use them together and also separately. The pad is shown below used in a tent without the cot, and you can also see the full set used in a tent.

Dual height

The legs are removable so the cot can be used with and without them, and this implies two different heights of 12 and 20 inches. This may be of importance if you use the set in a low tent, or for elderly people who might rather have a high bed and use the set with legs.

The picture shows the Twin version and its legs details; note that the Double cot is with 16 legs in total.

With 16 legs in total on Double cot, the weight is distributed, but you might want to check how those narrow feet interact with the tent’s floor to avoid potential damage.

When the legs are removed, the Double cot has 8 feet on the floor, they are integrated into the brackets, and they are quite wide. So in my view, this design is better for the tent’s floor.

You realize that in both cases you have plenty of storage space underneath the cot. This is very good to keep your gear out of way in the tent.

Materials and construction

All metal parts here are made of an aviation-grade aluminum alloy 7001.  This includes 4 brackets, 16 legs, and two side rails, see them all below.

Elements in the package.

The hub elements are some sort of plastic, no details are given in specifications, and the legs are with anti-slip pads that look like a rubber.

The sleeve (bed deck) is a polyester, but they do not provide D-value so not much can be said about its durability. This is a zippered, removable fabric cover that allows for easy washing for better hygiene. The picture below shows the Twin version, the same is on the Double as well.

The pad: The most interesting element is the pad which is built by using what is called drop-stitch technology. It includes hundreds of connections between the upper and lower side, and the structure is surprisingly rigid and strong.

Note that this same feature makes the pad quite hard, so you might want to add some softer layer if you wish.

The pad is 4 inches (10.2 cm) thick, so the picture above is quite exaggerated and used just to demonstrate the drop-stitching design.

Also, bear in mind this is not an insulated pad, good to know if you use the bed in a cold environment.

Below you see how the valve looks, this is a common design suitable for various pumps. You have one manual pump included in the package. It is easy to regulate the firmness of the pad.

Setup procedure

The most important steps are shown in the pictures below which show the Twin version. The same is with other two sizes.

You start by inserting side poles into the narrow sleeves that are integrated into the main pad’s sleeve that acts as a bed deck. Then add brackets, three in the Twin version and four in the Double cot. After that you may add legs if you plan to use them, 12 for Twin and 16 for Double.

After that put the pad into the main zippered sleeve and inflate it with the included pump:

Who is the Freein Double Camping Cot for

Regarding the capacity, the cot can support up to 820 lb (372 kg) and this should work for most couples.

Note that there is no pole in the middle, so this is better than in most of double-wide cots on the market.

The drop-stitch technology creates a strong and rigid sleeping platform, but heavier users report that there is sagging in the middle of the bed.

Though the brand claims it is completely sagging-free, but I would not take such a claim seriously. If you have a look at reports on Amazon you will clearly see sagging.

So this is a trade off; no central bar and no pressure spots, but sagging is unavoidable.

Regarding the dimensions, the most important are shown below. As you realize, the width is quite good but this Double version is quite short.

Dimensions.
Dimensions.

So if you are a very tall person, you might want to choose the Twin version shown below because it is the longest of the three options. It measures 82 x 31 inches (208 x 79 cm), but this is a solo bed as you realize from its width.

Three different sizes.

So this is a great option for outdoor use, but you can keep it also at home as as an emergency bed and a bed for sudden guests.

Regarding the weight, with 20.7 lb (9.4 kg) this is a heavy item, but it is not designed to be carried long distances so the weight is not really important.

Final thoughts

In summary, the Freein Double Camping Cot is a well-designed and versatile sleeping system that combines a sturdy cot and an advanced inflatable pad into one package.

The removable legs, washable sleeve, and the option to use the cot and pad separately add to its value and usability in various situations, both outdoors and at home.

There are some limitations to bear in mind, notably the relatively short length of the Double version, the lack of insulation in the pad, and the possibility of sagging in the middle under heavier loads.

However, considering the features, materials, and included accessories, this is a very competitive product and a strong option for couples, car campers, and anybody in need of a comfortable portable bed. I have included it in my list of best double cots.

Frequently asked questions

How easy is it to set up the Freein Double Camping Cot?

Setup takes a few minutes once you get the sequence right. Start with the side poles into the sleeves, add the brackets, attach legs if needed, slide the pad in, and inflate. The included pump works fine for quick inflation.

Many users keep it partially assembled for faster car camping trips. The removable legs add flexibility for different tent heights.

Is the Freein Double Camping Cot comfortable for couples?

The double wide design and drop stitch pad create a flat sleeping surface without a center pole pressing into your back. The 4 inch thick pad provides good cushioning and the cot keeps you off the cold ground with storage space underneath.

Heavier couples may notice some middle sagging so consider adding a thin foam topper for extra comfort. The washable zippered sleeve helps maintain hygiene over multiple trips.

How does the drop stitch pad compare to standard foam pads?

Drop stitch construction makes the pad far more rigid than typical inflatable pads while staying lightweight and packable. It supports heavy loads without rolling edges and works alone on the tent floor when you skip the cot frame.

Unlike many foam pads it packs small but it lacks insulation so pair it with an insulated liner or underquilt in colder weather.

Who should buy the Freein Double Camping Cot?

This cot suits car campers, couples, families with occasional guests, and anyone needing a versatile portable bed. The 820 pound capacity handles most pairs and the dual height option works well for older users or low clearance tents.

At 20.7 pounds it is not for backpacking but perfect for vehicle based trips or home emergency use. Tall people should consider the longer Twin version instead.
