What is in the name
There is a mess regarding the name of this roof top tent. At the brand’s site it is under the name Trustmade Triangle, and on Amazon just under the name Trustmade Hard Shell Rooftop Tent with Tent Rack.
At Camping World you will find it under the name Trustmade Scout Max Triangle. The name in the title I use is the same as at Sportsmansguide store.
The word Triangle tells you that this is a clamshell type hard shell roof top tent. So it is equipped with hinges on one side (see the picture below where they are visible) and it opens easily due to its integrated struts on the sides.
Note that the box is low profile, it is only 7 inches (18 cm) thick. You realize this from the picture below. Observe that the lid is completely flat.
The tent has three openings and you can use them all as doors and as windows. They are double-layer type with mesh and with panels for ventilation and for privacy and protection.
You have an awnings on three sides so all these openings are protected and you have a dry entry. In this sense, the structure is similar to the Roam Adventure the Desperado RTT.
Other details
There are plenty of storage features inside, a huge set is on the underside of the lid, and you also have two sets of pouches on the sides. You can see them in the picture below.
Yet another detail visible here is the included LED, this is something truly useful. There is also a shoe bag on the side of the tent. They claim that each tent comes with its unique key lock.
The tent comes with a telescopic 7’6″ ladder. The high-density foam mattress is only 2 inches (5.1 cm) thick, and it comes with a waterproof pad and anti-moisture features.
Cross bars
So this is mentioned in the name, though they use the phrase Roof Rack. There is no doubt this is yet another very useful bonus with this tent.
With such cross bars on the lid of this rooftop tent, you can transport some bulky items on it. The picture below shows that the roof is completely flat, and those cross bars attach to channels that are on the sides.
Materials
I would start with the box which is a high-quality honeycomb aluminum shell. Its size determines the sleeping area, so this is not an expandable design.
The lid is easy to raise, you have the usual struts on the sides. So open the lock and push the lid and it will open automatically. After that you add awning rods.
The awning which you see in pictures they call the fly. So this is a strong flame-retardant 420D Oxford, and it is CPAI-84 certified for safety.
The walls are a quality 300 g/m² polycotton with a 3000 mm waterproof rating. They claim it is breathable and UV-resistant with UV 50 plus.
Who is this Trustmade Scout MAX for
Regarding capacity, surprisingly, I see it described as a tent for 2-3 people, and this makes no much sense. The inner space measures 79.5 x 48 inches (202 x 122 cm), so the width is hardly enough for two adults.
Regarding weight, this tent is very heavy. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the numbers. So it weighs 205 lb (93 kg), and make sure your car can support such a weight.
Regarding seasons, you have good materials here and the walls are a strong fabric which gives a bit of insulation, so in principle, it can be used year round.
Regarding price, I would say that for a clamshell type, this tent comes with a truly reasonable price tag.
